Katerina Graham’s Bonnie began the season as Elena’s ditzy best friend on ‘Vampire Diaries.’ She soon was revealed to be a witch whose ancestor played a key role in Mystic Falls’ history. Graham has expertly transformed Bonnie from a carefree teen to a young woman who is embracing her powers. Graham warned that the cast members have no idea what is going to happen next on the wildly addictive serial. Instead, she discussed the cast’s close bond, the complicated vampire-witch relationship and why she is glad Bonnie does not have a boyfriend.

Last week’s episode ended with Bonnie being kidnapped by the new vampires in town. How is Bonnie going to get away from them?

I won’t say how or if, but I will say that she won’t be alone.

Why is Bonnie’s grandmother, Sheila (Jasmine Guy), so young?

A lot of people ask that. She’s a witch. She can make herself look younger. That’s why she looks so great.

Was Gina Torres’ character Bree, the witch that Damon killed, related to Bonnie?

Bonnie doesn’t know and I don’t know.

We haven’t seen Bonnie’s parents yet. Are they going to make an appearance?

I don’t know. Right now it’s known that I live with my father and my Mom’s not really around.

So, agree that vampires are oh-so-chic this season? That’s why I was thrilled to catch up with Katerina Graham, Bonnie of the CW’s hit show, The Vampire Diaries. I got the dish on all things style (like her DIY spray-painted stilettos!) and her 2010 movie, The Roommate, she just finished filming with Leighton Meester. Read on!

Describe your character Bonnie’s style on The Vampire Diaries.
Bonnie has a very hippie style – very earthy and natural. Simple, but still young and innocent.

Is Bonnie’s style ever anything you would wear on your own?
We’re different to the extreme. Bonnie goes for the loafer, while I opt for the platform stiletto. But, I love Bonnie’s clothes and will even see something and pick it up in a store if I feel it reflects her. As an actor, it’s important to lose your ego and fall into the character, even if she’s different than you are style-wise.

The leather jacket is very “vampirish” and a hot trend this season. What do you think about it – do you try to wear what’s on trend or stick to mostly basics?
I don’t do leather that much personally. I can see why dark, dangerous designs could be very vampirish – like Nina Ricci, or even McQueen’s last fall season. Alexander Wang also has some dark pieces I could see on a couple of high-fashion vampires. But, I don’t wear what’s on trend, and always like to do my own thing. In fact, if everyone is wearing one kind of style, I purposely veer off to do my own thing.

You just finished filming The Roommate with Leighton Meester. How was that, and when is the release?
It comes out September 2010. It was a lot of fun to work on a thriller, and I think a lot of people will like the film.

You’ve done a lot of acting for several different shows; would you ever consider a guest role on Gossip Girl?
Sure – I like Gossip Girl! And I LOVE the CW, so of course!

What’s your take on high heels and do you have a favorite pair?
Heels should always represent who you are. If you’re not naturally into six-inch open-toed platforms, then go for the flats. Always get shoes that represent your style, not because you saw them on a celebrity. My favorite pumps are these really old black platforms I call my “Basquiats.” I spray-painted the tips of them and studded them with diamonds and I love how the paint looks as if it’s still dripping off of them. I was inspired by Raphael Young’s batwing shoe. I love art, so to turn what is naturally a very elegant shoe into street art was something fabulous for me.

Katerina, the show is about to go on a hiatus until mid-January. Can you string viewers along with some titillating hints about where the show’s going?

Anything you can possibly think of? It’s happening. All of the storylines that the fans are questioning about is looking like it might happen. Just have to watch and see. It gets better every single week, there’s another cliffhanger, and another. There might be another person being cast that really helps evolve the whole witch story. I will say that.

Is it hard to juggle the show and your music career?

Sometimes it feels like I have to hold back the tiger and say, “wait your turn.” But I am so fortunate to be a part of this show, I don’t mind putting my music aside and devoting all my attention to “Vampire Diaries” because everyone wants this show to be the best thing ever.

Katerina was recently interview by CW Connect. I have added a few screen captures from the video where she talks about her friendship with Nina Dobrev, Bonnie’s powers and heritage, and what she’s obsessed with.
